Today it would have been Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’ 86th birthday. She is one of my favorite fashion icons of all times. Extremely elegant and tasteful, Jackie kept a simple yet classy style. Sunglasses, silk scarves and gorgeous pieces of jewellery used to complement her unique style. And let’s never forget her signature pillbox hats.
Of course I love her fashionable clothing, but what attracts me the most to Ms. Jackie O. are her always spontaneous smiles and some curious facts that people may not know about her. For example, Jackie spoke many languages. She was fluent in French, Spanish and Italian.
She also worked as a reporter, a photographer and was a successful book editor.
Another interesting fact: shortly after Mr. Kennedy won the presidential election, she transformed the White House into an elegant mansion adorned with antiques from former presidents such as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. She then opened a school in the White house that later became the foundation for kindergarten.
Finally one thing I didn’t know is that Jackie is that she was briefly engaged to another man before marrying John F. Kennedy but in March 1952 she abruptly called off the wedding. Then a few months later she began dating kennedy. They got married in September 1953.
Here some of the most memorable looks through the years.
